Psalm 46:10:
“He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Be still When our kids and grandkids were little, and they would be upset about something, they would come and climb up in our laps We would wrap our arms around them Sometimes hum, sometimes sing, to soothe them I can remember sometimes they would thrash about, and we would say, “Shhh...be still” Knowing it was easier for them to breathe, to quiet down, and to think more clearly if they were still It was also easier on us to hold them, and not drop them, if they would be still How many times have you told your children or grandchildren to “Be still” - Not to be mean or hateful to them, but because you knew it was best Whether they are at the table eating, and you know if they aren’t being still, they are going to drop the food not eat it - and the floor doesn’t need the nutrition Or if they are needing to get a shot for their health - if they aren’t still it will hurt a lot more If they are running a fever, it’s important to be still so that the fever doesn’t go higher So many times in life it is important to Just Be Still As children of God to just be still seems to be one of the hardest concepts for us to grasp and to do We want to thrash about in worry and fear We wring our hands looking for something that we can do to make things better We cry out with the pain of hurt and loss, but we don’t want to be still for the healing to take place We walk the floors with anxiety in the midst of the storms of life, but do we find a place to just be still and be quiet before God? When we tell our children and grandchildren to “Be still”, we don’t normally say it with impatience or frustration - But with love, with kindness, and with an understanding that it is best for the situation to just be still We speak with softness because it is natural for a child to quiet their cries when we do speak softly - they are straining to hear our voice God, speaks softly too That’s why we need to be still, be quiet, so that we can hear His voice Put the phone down, silence it even Turn the TV off Shut the computer down Find a quiet place - and just be still Let God love on you in the storm Let God speak to your heart Just breathe ... He’s got you!
