He is doing good.
His blood work has been a good report these last 2 months. His total blood count has been between 10 & 11. His potassium is perfect. The only thing they are concerned about is the phosphorus content. His phosphorus binders have been changed. He is still trying to get the "habit" of taking them with every bite of food. And it is hard for him to give up all the foods that are higher in phosphorus - he likes milk and cheese and ice cream, he likes most of the other foods as well. But he is learning some substitutions and he is learning moderation as well.
His blood sugar is more under control - he is no longer taking Glimepiride. We take his blood sugar as soon as he gets up each morning, and if the number is 150 or less - no Lantus! 150-200 is 15 units. 200+ is 20 units. So far, this last month, he has only had to have a shot a couple of times per week. Really gives him a picture of how much food and activity plays in the struggle with blood sugar numbers. When he eats late, or over-eats supper, and when he does little to nothing after supper? The numbers are higher the next morning. And since he Hates shots ... he is doing better!

Dr Greenwell is well pleased. Told him to keep doing what he is doing. Said that this camping is the best thing for him! We have had a few people question us about doing this ... even to the point of arguing with us over it all. We shared this with Dr Greenwell - and he said for me to give anyone who has objections HIS phone number and HE will stand in for us!

He did fall out of a moving car - that he was driving - about 3 weeks ago ... long story! Lol ...
In the Rv we have a washer/dryer combo that sits in a closet area. We put the cycler on top of the washer/dryer. Perfect fit. The only thing - I need (want) a shelf above it all to hold supplies. Rick has been looking for the "perfect" board to fit in there. 3 weeks ago, on a Monday, we had worked hard and long and hot here at the park (after a busy weekend). About 5 p.m. I was thirsty - and I asked him if he wanted something from Dairy Queen (1/2 mile from the park). We decided to go get a drink. We came to the highway intersection, right at Dairy Queen, and we stopped at the 4-way stop. Rick looked down at the road, and there lay a shelf board. A finished and rounded board - perfect shelf. He said, "Hey, I think that board would be right for your shelf. If it is still laying there and traffic is light when we come back, I am going to stop and get it."
We got our drinks. Came back thru the intersection. Board is still there, traffic is almost none. So, he drives over to where the board was laying, opened his door, unbuckled his seat belt, and leaned out to get the board. Now he has done such a thousand times in his life - picking something up out of the road. However, when he leaned over, his foot hit the accelerator of the Honda! And the car took off - leaving him in the road!!!
And because of the console in the car, I cannot get across to reach the brake! I didn't think of the parking brake - I just screamed and shoved the gear shifter into park. Jumped out and ran back to check on Rick.
Traffic was heavier by now, and at first I could not see Rick. When I got to him, he was on one knee - the other leg was numb. I couldn't get him up. A big truck stopped, blocked traffic, and the driver got out. He helped me get Rick up. And we got back to the car.
Rick has had burns (because of the hot pavement) on his knees, as well as some road rash where he fell out of the car. So, we have been dealing with that as well these last 3 weeks. Sigh. The best thing we could find to put on his knees that actually gave him relief was olive oil.
We talked to Dr Greenwell last Wednesday, told him what happened, and he looked at his knees. Said they were healing very well. No antibiotics needed. Thank you Lord!
This could have been so much worse!
--oh, and the Honda is fine! Rick said that I should have pulled the parking brake, but I was in a panic, and didn't think. All I could see was the car heading for the concrete overpass!

Whew!!!!!

God is God over the storms in my life & world -
and I am His.
Trusting in Him. Holding to His Promises as He holds me.

Learning to laugh, to love, & to live ... again - without Rick, but with God

Life goes on ... even when we don't want it to.

Great grief is indicative of a great Love.

Rick, my Sweetheart.
Margaret, his Beloved.
Always & Forever.
